Dave Carlson - Guitar, Ukulele

Dave Carlson, 16 years married, father of 3 lovely daughters, has 23 years of guitar playing experience. Twenty-one of those years were spent teaching, passing on his knowledge and passion for guitar to others, including in his high school music class where he co-taught the class.

​ ​He’s been in many bands over the years (since he was a teenager), and produced many recordings. Since 2004, Dave has taught private guitar lessons all over Greater Sudbury and in 5 schools.

In 2013, he and his wife Melanie, aka “Love Sound Movement,” released an EP which had songs played on radio stations across Canada. They are currently working on new material. (

​ Dave has toured the country with Sean Dayton and Andrew Hyatt and has opened for acts such as: Tim Hicks, Dean Brody, and Manafest. He has performed on major North American festival stages and National television. He also performs regularly in his home town of Sudbury, ON.

Dave acknowledges that the 10 years of private guitar and piano lessons he took as a youth really set the course of his life. He says, “Thanks mom and dad!”

Katherine A. Miles - Piano, Voice

Katherine began playing piano at the age of 7. Before graduating high school, she passed the Royal Conservatory Grade 8 exams and Grade 8 Theory and was teaching young students. Growing up in churches of over 2000 members granted many opportunities to join kids' and youth choirs, music ensembles and large scale musical productions. At 18 she was taking opera lessons in Toronto with Katherine Scott. Soon after at Master's College and Seminary she was part of a travelling music team that performed province-wide. By age 23 she was the full time Music Assistant/Drama Director at Kennedy Road Tabernacle in Brampton. This included assisting with a large choir and directing performances seen by thousands of people.

In recent years, her musical talents have been seen in Sudbury through local music teams, a short term with Octatonic Decadence choral group led by David Buley, and her debut EP produced in 2011. The album includes four original songs with her vocal and piano performances. She has continued to teach over the years and is now excited to return to music in a fuller capacity. Teaching with Sudbury Music Academy will enable her to fulfill her passion for mentoring people. Katherine says, "I have worked musically with Dave Carlson for over ten years and could not be more excited or honoured to join his team of skilled teachers to bring more music into the lives of Sudburians! Music is such an integral part of life; it can move us, help us grow, and change us for the better. It is an essential tool to empower us all."

Mariah Edmunds - Voice

Mariah has recently completed the Music Performance programme at Cambrian College as a Voice Major where she was also a part of the Cambrian Chamber Choir. Previous to attending post secondary, Mariah attended Sudbury Secondary School in the Performing Arts Programme as a Vocal Music major.
Mariah is no stranger to the stage. In high school she performed in choirs and the annual school musicals. In grade 11 received the lead role in Disney's High School Musical: On Stage as Gabrielle Montez. Mariah also has performed with Theatre Cambrian in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
When Mariah isn't singing or teaching voice lessons she is participating in and teaching Ukrainian Dance with Nasha Rodyna Dance Ensemble at St. Mary's Ukrainian Church.

Jonathan Carlson - Piano

Jonathan first gravitated to piano at age 8. That eventually led to advanced music studies at Huntington University and trained under the late Paul Ellis developing technical skills under the Royal Conservatory of Music (level A.R.C.T.) and later refined with the Robert E. Schmitz system. Jonathan also has his complete training in music theory (maximum level, gr.2) At age 16, he began teaching piano students professionally which eventually led to working through young people's Huntington University entrepreneurial teaching system. His passion for pursuing teaching has always been to challenge all ages of people to discover their hidden musical talents and to strive to levels of playing they never before imagined possible. While always making music a top priority, Jonathan also keeps quite busy with other artistic endeavours. He runs a full time photography business, TLC Photography, where he loves to work closely with people to create beautiful portraits. He also has a diploma in Graphic Design and continues to help companies with their branding and advertising. He is also currently employed with Christian Horizons to provide a higher quality of life for individuals with exceptional needs in a group home environment. But his greatest focus in life is helping his wife, Tonya, raise their three awesome kids - and helping around the house whenever possible - of course!

Riley Thompson - Guitar, Piano, Violin

Riley Thompson was born in Sudbury, and grew up with music lessons for classical guitar, piano, clarinet, 'cello, and  composition. He studied guitar and composition at Laurentian University, and classical guitar at Domaine Forget International Music and Dance Academy. He has been performing in and around Northern Ontario and Quebec for several years, and started teaching four years ago.


Andrea Crisp - Voice, Piano

With a passion for creativity and a desire to empower others to be successful in life and music, Andrea has been successfully teaching private voice and piano lessons for over twenty years. Many of her former students becoming professional musicians and recording artists. Andrea began her music career as a high school music teacher in 1997. In 2007 she transitioned her career to focus on full time leadership as a music director in several churches across Ontario. Since then Andrea has travelled as a professional musician, motivational speaker and coach. When she is not working one on one with students to become better singers and musicians, she focuses her energy on her private coaching clients helping them to succeed in life and business.


Rashane Robinson - Piano, Voice

My name is Rashane Robinson and I am a seasoned piano, vocal and music theory teacher. I started taking classical piano lessons at the age of 7 and classical vocal training at the age of 10 through the Ontario Conservatory of Music, and eventually trained through the Royal Conservatory of Music. I've entered and won many competitions within the GTA and have recorded music as well for local artists. I have been teaching music for 7 years now in Brampton, Vaughn, Mississauga and Toronto ranging from ages 3 to 93, both privately and in classes. New to the Sudbury area, I am continuing my education and acquiring my second degree in nursing Laurentian University, after graduating from the University of Toronto in 2016 where I studied English and Human Biology.


Dan Moir - Drums, Guitar, Bass

Dan Moir has amassed a variety of experiences in the last decade of his stage career, and is more than excited to share his knowledge with students. Born and raised in Sudbury, he started playing guitar at the age of 12 followed by drums when he began attending Sudbury Secondary, the local high school that specializes in performance arts. After getting a solid foundation in the fundamentals of music, he proceeded to attend Cambrian College for their performing arts program specializing in drum set. During that time he led the Nickel City Big band and performed with the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra while also playing and recording with different local groups. Since graduating, Dan has continued giving everything he has to his teaching, performances and practice. Dan has shared the stage with international recording artists; The Glorious Sons, Billy Talent, The Trews, Finger 11, Big Wreck and many more while performing with his rock group Fortunate Losers. 


Maxwell Moote - Guitar, Ukulele, Brass, Strings, Piano

I have been playing guitar for 12 years followed by French horn for 7 years. I perform in several orchestras including the Sudbury symphony orchestra and have played in the national music festival of Canada. I am now in my third year of university studying music performance and am fluent the language of music. As a part of my schooling I have picked up skills on a variety of instruments including the piano, violin, voice and every brass instrument. Music has always come naturally to me and I would love to pass on my knowledge.


Katie Harper - Voice

Katie is currently in the Music Performance program at Cambrian College, majoring in voice. She’s performed across Eastern Canada and in multiple pageants where she took home the title of Miss Teen Talent Canada 2015. Katie went to Sudbury Secondary School where she majored in vocals and drama. She loves musical theatre and has performed with Theatre Cambrian. When Katie isn’t singing, she loves to read about astronomy and space science. 


Andrew Hyatt - Songwriting

Andrew Hyatt is a Canadian singer songwriter Signed to Wax Records and distributed through Universal Music Canada. Andrew started his career as a songwriter at a very young age and decided to further his career by attending Seneca for Independant music Production. After excelling in the songwriting portions of the course Andrew went on to receive acknowledgement at a rewrite he did of the song Helena Beat which garnered significant Canadian hype via Much Music. Andrew has gone on to write songs in many genres such as Moonshine by Alee which reached #14 on the Canadian country music Charts, All I Want by the Heist which has had a very successful summer at Canadian Pop radio and his own singles: Love Drunk, Living the Dream and ME AND A GIRL AND A RADIO, which was the most played song at the largest country markets in Canada this summer. Andrew spends most of his time honing his skills with some of the best songwriters in the world, be it in Toronto, Nashville or LA.
